# Address

> Capture a street address, and turn it into a coordinate.

**Address** captures a street address as free text over several lines. On its own it has no map; pair it with a [Coordinate](/pages/workflow/task-type/components/input/coordinate) to get the position.

**Use cases**

* **Delivery address** shown on the task and in the task list.
* **Source for a coordinate**: import tasks with only an address and let the coordinate be found for you.
* **Manual address**: record a location in words when GPS is not needed.

## Properties

<div align="center">
  <img src="https://mintcdn.com/mileappv4/Xul_B0hUk35UiMLk/images/v4/workflow/components/input-address.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=Xul_B0hUk35UiMLk&q=85&s=ff676cab4d84e50712f715c98841a54a" alt="Address properties" width="600" data-path="images/v4/workflow/components/input-address.png" />
</div>

1. **Default Value**: an address filled in for every new task. It can span several lines.
2. **Visible**: when off, the field is hidden on the web and the field app; its value is still kept and exported.
3. **Required**: the task cannot be saved or finished until an address is entered.
4. **Fill a coordinate from this address**: pick the Coordinate component this address writes into. The same link can also be set from the Coordinate's **Geocode** switch.
5. **Show As**: show the address in the task list as the task's **Title**, **Content** or **Label**. **Content** is the usual choice.
6. **Route As** (Initial page only): pass the address to route planning as the visit's **Address**.

## Address and coordinate

When an address is linked to a coordinate, the coordinate is found from the address whenever a task is created with an address but no coordinate, for example in an import. You do not need to type coordinates.

## On the field app

The field shows a multi-line text box. It can already be filled from task creation, from a data source or from the Default Value, and the worker can edit it before finishing the page.
